Guidelines for Nursery and Toddler Workers
- Caregivers must never leave children alone at any time or allow a child to leave the room alone.
- Caregivers may not work in the baby or toddler rooms if they are coming down with a cold or other illness.
- Caregivers must notify Valerie in advance if he/she is unable to serve so
that a substitute may be found.
- Except for the caregivers, children, and nursing mothers, no one else should be in the baby and toddler rooms.
Caregiver Job Description:
You have one of the most important jobs in our church’s ministry! You are helping to lay a firm foundation of faith in the lives of the babies and toddlers you will be caring for as you hold, cuddle, change, talk to, and play with them. In a very real sense you, along with their parents, are their first picture of God and His love for them.
Qualifications:
- Growing Christian
- Love for babies and toddlers
- Know/willing to learn about baby/toddler characteristics
- Dependable
- Ability to get along with people
- Friendly and cheerful
Duties:
- Arrive fifteen (15) minutes before service begins
- Wear smocks so parents can easily identify nursery staff
- Welcome parents and babies/toddlers in a friendly way
- Place toys within the children’s reach
- Be sure that diaper bags are marked with the clothes pin with child’s name
- Be involved with the care of the babies/toddlers by rocking them, talking
to them, reading to them, playing with them, and so on
- If possible, check each child’s diaper before the end of the hour. If necessary,
change accordingly
- During your time in the nursery/toddler room, complete a “care sheet” for
each child to be given to the parents
- Lastly, use the Clorox wipes to sanitize each and every toy that was placed
out for the children’s use. Replace all toys back in the cabinet or closet.
Change the crib sheet. Place used or soiled smocks and crib sheets on the
floor of the closet
- Most importantly, show each child the love of Christ through you! And thank
you for caring for our babies and serving the parents through this ministry!
